Testimonials

Dave has coached me for the last several years and his contribution has definitely grown the business. He helps define priorities and then determine how to engage the team so that the organization acts with clarity and focus. Dave is a masterful interpreter of the energy that drives me and in turn drives the company. I consider Dave to be a key partner in my business.

We have been thoroughly impressed with Dave’s ability to provide timely and insightful facilitation to our leadership team. Over the last few years, we have utilized Dave’s skills to train leaders in customer service; core leadership essentials; and most recently, guidance in managing teams in a virtual environment.

Dave brings practical business experience to his clients, and I would not hesitate to recommend him as a highly effective facilitator.

David has proven to be an exceptional business coach during my time spent with him. He has a wealth of real-world corporate experience, which enables him to offer informed opinion and analytical commentary on how to navigate difficult business decisions, while at the same time being able to provide significant insight into driving performance and engagement in my area of responsibility. David has proven to be a reliable, honest and trustworthy coach who has provided me with a new perspective on how to approach challenges and opportunities.

I recommend Dave Town, of Your Leadership Matters, as a keynote speaker and course leader. Dave presented a talk on “Difficult Dialogues” to 200 people at our Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg, and he conducted two smaller workshops. He combined a highly engaging presentation style with excellent, relevant content. Participant feedback was extremely high. And as organizer I was delighted.

What is Character in Business Leadership?

/
The key to understanding a person’s character is to establish how a person’s traits act in conjunction with their values and virtues. It’s like a math equation. Behaviour is a product of hardwired preferences multiplied by values and virtues. It is important to point out that values and virtues are not hardwired in the same way as traits are. Values and virtues can be learned, are a choice and can be changed.

Why Character Matters to Leadership

/
One of the key goals of effective leadership is to enable others to act independently once they understand the vision and goals of the leader. The process of enabling independence requires the leader to move from telling “followers” exactly what to do in order to achieve the goal, to a process where “followers” make their own decisions on how to achieve the vision and goal that the leader has articulated. In other words leaders should ultimately move toward managing the outcome versus “micro-managing” the process used to achieve the outcome.
